Just when fans thought the Ragini MMS universe was gearing up for a bold comeback, things seem to have hit an unexpected pause.

Reports suggest that Ragini MMS 3 — reportedly starring Tamannaah Bhatia — has been put on hold even before cameras could start rolling. And the reason? A last-minute shake-up behind the scenes.

Director Exit Derails Momentum

According to a recent report by Variety India, filmmaker Sahir Raza, who was attached to direct the third installment, has been removed from the project. The decision is said to stem from scheduling conflicts, as Raza is currently serving as showrunner on a Netflix series.

Sources claim that due to a mandate from the streaming platform requiring showrunners to be present on set daily, Raza’s commitments clashed with the production timeline of Ragini MMS 3. As a result, the makers are now searching for a replacement director — a process that may take time.

For now, the film reportedly remains indefinitely on hold.

A Franchise With Cult History

The Ragini MMS series first shocked audiences in 2011 with Ragini MMS, starring Rajkummar Rao and Kainaz Motivala. Blending found-footage horror with psychological tension, the film became a sleeper hit.

The franchise took a more commercial turn in 2014 with Ragini MMS 2, headlined by Sunny Leone, which leaned heavily into glamour and music while keeping the horror base intact.

Now, nearly a decade later, producer Ektaa Kapoor is reportedly planning a fresh chapter — this time with Tamannaah leading the narrative. However, there has been no official confirmation from either Ektaa or Tamannaah regarding casting or production timelines.

Tamannaah’s Busy Slate

Even as Ragini MMS 3 faces uncertainty, Tamannaah’s calendar remains packed.

She is set to star in Vvan, a jungle-horror thriller alongside Sidharth Malhotra, slated for a theatrical release on May 15, 2026. The film is expected to blend folklore and survival horror — a genre Tamannaah hasn’t explored extensively before.

She has also signed on for a biopic on legendary filmmaker-actor V. Shantaram, directed by Abhijeet Deshpande. The project aims to reintroduce younger audiences to Shantaram’s cinematic legacy and contribution to Indian cinema.

Clearly, the actress isn’t slowing down — even if one project is temporarily stalled.

Final Words

Franchises often face turbulence before takeoff, and Ragini MMS 3 seems to be navigating its first real hurdle. Whether the team finds a new director quickly or decides to rework the vision entirely, one thing is certain — expectations are already high.

The horror may be delayed.
But if revived correctly, the third installment could still bring back the chills that made the franchise iconic.

For now, fans will have to wait — and watch the shadows.
