Can anyone really replace Geet and Aditya? That’s a question Bollywood fans have debated for years. Now, filmmaker Imtiaz Ali has stirred fresh excitement by imagining who could headline a modern version of his 2007 cult romance Jab We Met.
And his answer is clear: Sharvari Wagh and Vedang Raina.
Geet & Aditya 2.0?
During a recent interaction with NDTV, Imtiaz was asked to picture a contemporary take on Jab We Met and who might inherit its iconic roles. Without hesitation, he named Sharvari and Vedang.
“At this age, I think Sharvari and Vedang could be… because they are very young and they have that streak that they can become that,” he said.
For fans of the original film — which turned Kareena Kapoor Khan’s Geet and Shahid Kapoor’s Aditya into cultural touchstones — the suggestion instantly sparked curiosity online.
While this isn’t a formal reboot announcement, it’s the first time the filmmaker has openly envisioned a next-generation pairing for the beloved characters.
Why Sharvari and Vedang?
Interestingly, both actors are already collaborating with Imtiaz Ali on his upcoming directorial venture. The project, produced by Applause Entertainment and A Window Seat Films production, is slated to hit cinemas on June 12, 2026.
Unlike the breezy train-journey romance of Jab We Met, this new film dives into a more intense emotional landscape. Set in Punjab against the backdrop of the 1940s Partition, it reportedly explores love, longing, and separation across generations.
Sharvari plays the young female lead opposite Vedang, while Diljit Dosanjh also features prominently in the film. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah is set to play a key role, adding gravitas to the narrative.
Given this collaboration, Imtiaz likely sees in them the emotional vulnerability and spark required to recreate something as layered as Geet and Aditya.
The Legacy of Jab We Met
Released in 2007, Jab We Met became more than just a romantic comedy. It reshaped Bollywood’s idea of the modern heroine through Geet’s unapologetic individuality and optimism, while Aditya’s silent heartbreak struck a chord with audiences.
The film’s dialogues, soundtrack, and train sequences are still quoted and replayed today — proof of its timeless appeal.
Any reboot would carry enormous expectations. It wouldn’t just be about casting; it would be about capturing that lightning-in-a-bottle chemistry.
More About Imtiaz’s Upcoming Film
According to reports, the upcoming 2026 release will chronicle the story of lovers torn apart by historical upheaval during Partition. The narrative reportedly spans generations, and Imtiaz was earlier said to be in talks with additional leading female actors due to the story’s expansive timeline.
Costume designer Sheetal Sharma — who collaborated with him on Chamkila — is also part of the creative team.
Clearly, the filmmaker is in a reflective phase, revisiting themes of love and loss but through different eras and emotional lenses.
Final Words
For now, there’s no official Jab We Met reboot in the works. But Imtiaz Ali imagining Sharvari and Vedang as Geet and Aditya 2.0 is enough to send fans into a nostalgic spiral.
Could they pull it off? Maybe. They certainly have the freshness and intensity.
But Geet and Aditya aren’t just roles — they’re memories. And if a reboot ever happens, it will need more than casting chemistry. It will need heart.
