The teaser for Ghar Kab Aaoge — the recreated version of the legendary Sandese Aate Hain — has already struck a chord with audiences, and now one of the original creators has weighed in. Composer Anu Malik, who gave Border its unforgettable musical soul back in 1997, has made it clear that while he isn’t directly involved in Border 2, his contribution to the iconic melody cannot be overlooked.

“I’m not part of it — but the tune is mine”

Speaking about the recreated track, Anu Malik said that Ghar Kab Aaoge is clearly a recreation, even though he has not actively worked on the new version. Still, he expects his name — and lyricist Javed Akhtar’s — to appear in the credits.

According to Malik, Border 2 simply cannot exist without Sandese Aate Hain. The song is inseparable from the emotional identity of the franchise, and the makers know it. He stressed that audiences are well aware of who originally created the song, making it impossible to “get away” without acknowledging that legacy.

Faith in the new version — and the singers

Despite not being involved creatively, Malik sounded optimistic about the recreated track. Much of that confidence comes from the vocal lineup. With Sonu Nigam returning, joined this time by Arijit Singh, Malik believes the emotional weight of the song is in capable hands.

He described Sonu as one of the finest singers of the current generation and called Arijit a “magical” voice — suggesting that the combination could elevate the recreated version. The track also features Vishal Mishra and Diljit Dosanjh, adding newer textures to the familiar melody.

Still, Malik was firm on one point: no matter how it’s rearranged or expanded, the core tune remains his, and the original lyrics by Javed Akhtar remain the backbone of the song.

Why Sandese Aate Hain became timeless

Looking back at Sandese Aate Hain, Malik reflected on how deeply personal the song was for him. He said he poured everything into composing it, driven by love for the country rather than commercial intent. That sincerity, paired with Javed Akhtar’s heartfelt lyrics and the voices of Sonu Nigam and Roopkumar Rathod, is what turned the song into a national emotion rather than just a film track.

Its simplicity, patriotism, and emotional restraint are exactly why it continues to resonate decades later.

Border 2: old soul, new generation

The original Border, directed by J.P. Dutta, starred Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna, and remains one of India’s most iconic war films. Border 2 is being directed by Anurag Singh and features a new-generation ensemble including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty.

Produced by T-Series and J.P. Dutta’s J.P. Films, the sequel is set for a theatrical release on January 23, 2026.

Final words

Ghar Kab Aaoge isn’t just another remake — it’s a return to one of Hindi cinema’s most emotionally loaded songs. And while the new version brings fresh voices and modern production, Anu Malik’s message is clear: the heart of Sandese Aate Hain still beats through it. Acknowledging that legacy may be the most important note the makers hit.
