Anna Faris Says Her Melania Trump Joke Was Cut From Scary Movie Despite Franchise’s Offensive Reputation

Paramount

The new Scary Movie may have stormed the box office with a massive $54 million debut, but according to Anna Faris, audiences still didn’t get to see one of the wildest jokes filmed for the movie.

During a recent conversation with Dexerto, the actress opened up about returning to the franchise that helped define her career and revealed that a pointed reference aimed at Melania Trump ended up on the cutting-room floor.

Faris reprised her role as Cindy Campbell in the sixth installment, reuniting with original cast members Marlon Wayans, Regina Hall, and Shawn Wayans. For longtime fans, her return was one of the movie’s biggest selling points. But while Scary Movie has never exactly been known for restraint, even this franchise apparently has limits.

According to Faris, she envisioned Cindy as someone who had fallen deep into conspiracy theories and chaotic internet rabbit holes.

“I was always pushing for Cindy to be classic MAGA rabbit hole,” Faris said. “The kind of person that you saw outside of the Walmart during quarantine that was raising some kind of crazy-ass fuss.”

The Joke That Never Made It to Theaters

Faris then described the deleted scene she had hoped audiences would eventually see.

“There was a moment where I am getting wasted, like so drunk… I am in my truck and I look into the rearview mirror and I say, ‘Be best, Cindy Campbell. Be best,'” Faris said about the sequence referencing Melania Trump’s anti-bullying initiative.

“That didn’t make it, but I liked my little winking there.”

The actor appeared amused rather than disappointed by the decision. After all, Scary Movie has built an entire legacy around crossing lines that other comedies would hesitate to approach. From horror movie clichés to celebrity scandals and pop culture absurdities, no target has traditionally been considered off-limits.

For Faris, playing Cindy inside that environment brought a strange sense of freedom.

“You know, what are you gonna do? You gonna be mad at Cindy?” Faris added. “I’m in a movie that is truly the most offensive movie ever made, and I’m the lead of it. And I participate in offensive ideas. I think I can kind of do anything. It liberated me.”

Her comments offer a glimpse into the mindset behind the character that audiences embraced decades ago. Cindy has never been polished, politically aware, or particularly graceful. She’s chaotic, impulsive, and usually finds herself stumbling through increasingly ridiculous situations.

Anna Faris Returns to Where It All Started

One of the biggest talking points surrounding the latest Scary Movie was Faris’ return after missing the fifth installment. For many fans, Cindy Campbell’s absence left a noticeable void in the franchise.

The sixth film finally reunites several familiar faces from the original era. Alongside Faris, Marlon Wayans, Regina Hall, and Shawn Wayans all returned, bringing back the chemistry that helped transform the early movies into pop culture phenomena.

The franchise itself has had a complicated history behind the scenes.

The Wayans family originally created Scary Movie, with Keenen Ivory Wayans directing the first two films while Marlon and Shawn co-wrote and starred in them. However, after the success of Scary Movie 2, the brothers reportedly sought improved deals to continue with a third installment.

Their request was rejected.

Instead, Harvey and Bob Weinstein moved forward without them, reshaping the direction of the franchise for years afterward.

Marlon Wayans Reflects on the Fallout

Despite the public nature of that split, Marlon Wayans has indicated that he no longer carries resentment over what happened.

Speaking recently with Variety, the actor addressed the situation with surprising calm.

“What they did is between them and God,” Marlon Wayans said. “I don’t applaud that type of behavior, but I can’t hold hate and hurt in my heart if I want to evolve.”

The statement reflects a more reflective perspective from someone whose creative fingerprints remain deeply attached to the franchise’s DNA.

For audiences, however, the focus remains on the latest movie’s success. The sixth installment has already exceeded expectations at the box office, proving there is still an appetite for outrageous parody in an era where many major studios have largely abandoned the spoof genre.

Ironically, one of the jokes that didn’t survive the editing room has become a story of its own.

In a franchise famous for pushing boundaries and mocking just about everyone, Anna Faris’ Melania Trump gag may never have reached the big screen. But judging by the reaction to her revelation, fans are already wondering what other absurd moments ended up left behind.

One thing, though, hasn’t changed. Cindy Campbell is still causing chaos — even through scenes audiences never got to watch.
