Taylor Swift’s Toy Story 5 Song Debuts at No. 1, Making Billboard History Yet Again

At this point, Taylor Swift turning a song into a chart-topping event feels less like a surprise and more like an expectation. But even by her own extraordinary standards, her latest achievement stands out. The singer has scored another Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 with “I Knew It, I Knew You,” the theme song from Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, adding a fresh milestone to an already record-breaking career.

The debut doesn’t just extend Swift’s dominance on the charts. It also places her in a very exclusive club tied to Disney’s musical legacy. More than three decades after Aladdin and a few years after Encanto sparked a global singalong phenomenon, another animated film anthem has climbed all the way to the summit.

For Swift, it is another reminder that regardless of genre, format or audience, few artists can command attention quite like she can.

Taylor Swift Earns Her 15th Billboard Hot 100 No. 1

Billboard confirmed on Monday that “I Knew It, I Knew You” debuted directly at No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart. The achievement gives Swift her 15th chart-topper, pushing her into sole possession of third place among artists with the most No. 1 singles in the chart’s history.

Only two acts now stand ahead of her.

The Beatles continue to lead with 20 No. 1 hits, while Mariah Carey holds second place with 19. Swift had previously been tied with Rihanna and Drake, who each entered the week with 14 chart-toppers. This latest victory breaks that tie and further strengthens her status as one of the most successful recording artists of all time.

The numbers behind the debut paint a clear picture of why the song soared straight to the top.

“I Knew It, I Knew You” opened with 27.2 million on-demand streams during its first tracking week. On radio, the track generated 46.7 million audience impressions, while digital sales reached an impressive 87,000 copies.

Notably, that sales figure came entirely from digital downloads. Limited-edition CD and vinyl versions sold through Swift’s online store had not yet shipped during the debut tracking period, meaning future weeks could still receive an additional boost from physical sales.

A Rare Disney Milestone and a Country Radio Surprise

Swift’s latest No. 1 also gives Disney another unusual chart distinction.

Only three songs originating from animated Disney films have ever reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The first was “A Whole New World” from Aladdin in 1993. The second arrived nearly three decades later when “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from Encanto captured the cultural zeitgeist in 2022.

Now, “I Knew It, I Knew You” joins that short but prestigious list.

What makes the accomplishment even more fascinating is the route the song took to get there.

The track received a significant promotional push to country radio, something Swift hasn’t done extensively with an entirely new non-“Taylor’s Version” release since before her full transition into pop with 1989 in 2015.

Country programmers responded enthusiastically.

The song debuted at No. 8 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, an unusually high starting position considering that most new entries gradually climb over several weeks. It also launched at No. 9 on the Adult Contemporary Airplay chart and broke into the Top 20 on both pop and adult pop radio rankings.

On Billboard’s Country Songs chart, which combines streaming, sales and radio performance, the track entered directly at No. 1. That marks Swift’s 10th No. 1 on the country tally and serves as another reminder of her unique ability to move effortlessly between musical worlds.

Country Music’s Strong Week and Billboard’s Other Big Winners

Swift wasn’t the only artist benefiting from country music’s current momentum.

In fact, four country tracks found places inside this week’s Hot 100 Top 10. Following Swift at No. 1 were three songs by Ella Langley, whose breakout run continues to gather steam. “Choosin’ Texas” landed at No. 2, while “Be Her” secured the No. 4 position. Her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” rounded out the country representation at No. 9.

Elsewhere on the chart, Drake’s “Janice STFU” claimed the No. 3 spot, while Ariana Grande’s “Hate That I Made You Love Me” opened at No. 5.

Bruno Mars remained firmly in the mix with “I Just Might,” and Olivia Dean enjoyed a particularly impressive showing with two entries in the Top 10. Tame Impala and Jennie’s “Dracula” completed the upper tier of the chart.

While the singles race delivered plenty of movement, the Billboard 200 album chart remained relatively stable.

Drake’s Iceman held onto the No. 1 position for a fourth consecutive week, moving 133,000 equivalent album units despite experiencing a 22% decline from the previous frame. Malcolm Todd earned the week’s strongest album debut with Do That Again, arriving at No. 5 with 67,000 units. Niall Horan’s Dinner Party also cracked the Top 10, debuting at No. 7 with 55,000 units.

The rest of the chart featured familiar names. Ella Langley’s Dandelion stayed strong at No. 2, Morgan Wallen appeared twice with I’m the Problem and One Thing at a Time, Noah Kahan maintained his presence with The Great Divide, while Michael Jackson’s enduring classics Thriller and Number Ones continued to attract listeners decades after their original release. Olivia Dean’s The Art of Loving also returned to the Top 10.

For Taylor Swift, though, this week belongs to another chapter in a career defined by reinvention and longevity. From country prodigy to pop powerhouse and now the voice behind one of Disney’s rare chart-conquering animated themes, she continues finding new ways to make history.

With Toy Story 5 still building anticipation ahead of its release, “I Knew It, I Knew You” has already accomplished something remarkable. It isn’t just another soundtrack song attached to a major movie. It has become one of the biggest hits of the year and another reminder that when Swift enters the conversation, the charts rarely stay the same for long.
