Tamil political drama Parasakthi, starring Sivakarthikeyan, has reportedly cleared the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but not without hurdles. According to fresh reports, the film has been granted clearance with 23 mandated cuts, many of which allegedly relate to scenes depicting the anti-Hindi agitation.

Directed by Sudha Kongara, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on January 10, 2026, and the certification comes just days ahead of its release.

Why CBFC Asked for 23 Cuts

As per reports citing CBFC sources, the Chennai regional office instructed the makers to remove or alter specific scenes and dialogues referencing the anti-Hindi movement. These sequences are said to form a key part of the film’s political and historical backdrop, set in the 1960s.

The filmmakers reportedly believe that the suggested edits could disturb the narrative flow and dilute the film’s historical context. In response, Sudha Kongara has approached the Revising Committee of the CBFC in Mumbai, seeking reconsideration of the cuts. As of now, the makers have not released an official statement addressing the issue.

Release Moves Ahead After Jana Nayagan Delay

Originally, Parasakthi was set to clash at the box office with Jana Nayagan, headlined by Vijay. However, with Jana Nayagan’s release postponed, Parasakthi now enjoys a clear theatrical window during the Pongal season.

The film also stars Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and marks the Tamil debut of Sreeleela. The ensemble cast includes Dev Ramnath, Prithvi Rajan, Guru Somasundaram, Basil Joseph, Papri Ghosh and Rana Daggubati.

Plagiarism Case: Another Recent Hurdle

Parasakthi has already navigated controversy in recent days. A plagiarism complaint was filed by writer KV Rajendram, who alleged that his story Chemmozhi, based on anti-Hindi agitations and riots, was copied without consent. The matter was taken to the South Indian Film Writers Association, with a plea to halt the film’s release.

However, the Madras High Court refused to stay the release, offering major relief to the makers and allowing the film’s theatrical plans to proceed.

What Lies Ahead

With CBFC clearance reportedly in place — albeit with cuts — and the Revising Committee now involved, all eyes are on whether the final version of Parasakthi will retain its intended political intensity. As the release date nears, the film stands at the intersection of cinema, history, and censorship — a space Tamil cinema has often navigated with both controversy and impact.
