Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has quietly pulled off what many big-ticket releases aim for — and few actually achieve. Released on December 5 with relatively muted promotions, the Ranveer Singh–led spy thriller has now crossed the ₹1000 crore mark worldwide in just 21 days, officially emerging as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025.
What makes the achievement stand out is not just the number, but the speed and consistency with which the film reached it.
A Strong Run Without the Noise
From its opening week, Dhurandhar showed unusual staying power. While pre-release buzz was controlled and promotional visibility modest, audience turnout told a very different story. Strong word of mouth, repeat viewing, and festive-season footfalls helped the film hold firm well into its third week.
By Day 21, Dhurandhar had amassed a worldwide gross of ₹1006.7 crore, officially pushing it into Indian cinema’s most exclusive box office bracket.
Entering an Elite Club
With this milestone, Dhurandhar becomes the ninth Indian film ever to cross ₹1000 crore globally, placing it alongside some of the biggest modern blockbusters.
The ₹1000 crore benchmark was first breached by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in 2017, before Dangal went on to shatter records and become the only Indian film to cross ₹2000 crore worldwide — a position it still holds.
Since then, films like RRR, KGF: Chapter 2, Pathaan, Jawan, and Kalki 2898 AD have entered the club. Dhurandhar now joins that lineage, closing out 2025 on a historic note.
Top Worldwide Indian Grossers (Selected):
- Dangal – ₹2070 crore
- Baahubali 2: The Conclusion – ₹1,810.60 crore
- Pushpa 2: The Rule – ₹1871 crore
- RRR – ₹1230 crore
- KGF: Chapter 2 – ₹1215 crore
- Jawan – ₹1160 crore
- Pathaan – ₹1055 crore
- Kalki 2898 AD – ₹1042.25 crore
- Dhurandhar – ₹1006.7 crore (and counting)
Story, Scale, and Star Power
Written and directed by Aditya Dhar, Dhurandhar follows an Indian intelligence operative sent deep into Pakistan’s Lyari region to infiltrate a powerful Baloch gang. Ranveer Singh headlines the film as Hamza Ali Mazari, also known as Jaskirat Singh Rangi, delivering one of the most intense performances of his career.
The ensemble cast includes Akshaye Khanna as antagonist Rehman Dakait, along with Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, adding weight to the film’s geopolitical and emotional stakes.
What Lies Ahead
With strong momentum still intact, trade analysts are now watching to see how far Dhurandhar can climb by the end of its theatrical run. The franchise is already locked in, with Dhurandhar 2 scheduled for an Eid 2026 release across Hindi and South Indian languages.
For now, Dhurandhar stands as a reminder that big box office records don’t always need loud marketing — sometimes, solid storytelling and audience trust are enough.
