The theatre world is mourning the loss of Imani Smith, a former Broadway performer who once played Young Nala in Disney’s The Lion King. Smith died on December 21 after being stabbed in Edison, New Jersey. She was 26.
What Happened
According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, police responded to a 911 call in Edison and found Smith suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have since arrested 35-year-old Jordan D. Jackson-Small in connection with the incident. Officials stated that Smith and the accused knew each other and that the attack was not random.
Smith’s family later confirmed that Jackson-Small was her boyfriend.
Charges Filed
Jackson-Small was taken into custody without incident and has been charged with:
- First-degree murder
- Second-degree endangering the welfare of a child
- Third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose
- Fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon
