Just when fans were gearing up for Karthi’s Vaa Vaathiyaar to hit theatres on December 5, the makers have decided to push the release by another week. The film will now arrive on December 12, marking yet another shift for the long-delayed Tamil action drama.
A Second Delay Ahead of Release
The team announced the new date only days before the film’s scheduled premiere, reviving concerns about whether Vaa Vaathiyaar might encounter the same pre-release turbulence that affected K.E. Gnanavel Raja’s earlier production Kanguva. That film too faced hurdles before release and eventually underperformed at the box office.
Nalan Kumarasamy Returns After 8 Years
Directed by Nalan Kumarasamy, Vaa Vaathiyaar marks the filmmaker’s return to the big screen after almost a decade — his last feature, Kadhalum Kadandhu Pogum, released in 2016. The delay has only heightened curiosity about what he’s bringing next.
Karthi, who was last seen in 2024’s Meiyazhagan along with cameo appearances in HIT and Kanguva, is taking on yet another intense role. The posters show him in full police attire, signalling a hard-edged action setup.
Music Already a Hit With Fans
Composer Santhosh Narayanan is behind the film’s soundtrack, with the first single Uyir Pathikaama releasing more than six months ago and continuing to trend among Karthi fans. The songs have already created solid pre-release buzz, even as the film’s date keeps shifting.
An Ensemble-Led Action Drama
Produced under the Studio Green banner, the film features a packed ensemble cast that includes Krithi Shetty, Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anandaraj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, G.M. Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, Nivas Adithan, and P.L. Thenappan.
With Studio Green backing, the film is expected to carry the production scale and commercial appeal typical of the banner’s releases.
Karthi’s Upcoming Films: Sardar 2 and More
Once Vaa Vaathiyaar hits screens, Karthi is expected to move into promotion for Sardar 2, the sequel to the 2022 spy thriller. The film stars Rajisha Vijayan, Malavika Mohanan, Ashika Ranganath and Sajol Ahamed, with Sam CS composing and George C. Williams handling cinematography. Backed by Prince Pictures and IVY Entertainment, the sequel promises a high-octane, big-canvas experience.
Meanwhile, Karthi has also begun shooting for Marshal. Though fans hoped Lokesh Kanagaraj would jump straight into the much-awaited Kaithi 2 after wrapping Coolie, newer reports suggest the filmmaker may take a longer route back to the LCU franchise. The original Kaithi (2019), starring Karthi as ex-convict Dilli, remains one of the most celebrated Tamil action thrillers of the past decade.
Final Words
With Vaa Vaathiyaar now set for a December 12 arrival, all eyes are on whether the film clears its release hurdles once and for all. Between Nalan Kumarasamy’s comeback, Karthi’s commanding presence, and Santhosh Narayanan’s already-popular soundtrack, the film retains strong buzz — provided it finally makes it to theatres without another shift.
