Korean actor Lee Yi Kyung has taken firm legal action against an unidentified individual who spread damaging rumors about his private life, marking a turning point in a controversy that has affected both his career and his mental well-being. On November 21, the actor shared a detailed statement on social media, speaking openly for the first time about the ordeal he has been quietly enduring.
According to Lee, his agency previously urged him to stay silent — but after months of distress, he decided to act on his own terms.
“I Was Furious Every Moment” — Lee Yi Kyung Details His Ordeal
In his statement, Lee referred to the anonymous netizen, who claimed to be German, as “A.” He explained that this individual repeatedly appeared and disappeared online, sending threatening emails to his agency and spreading damaging false claims.
After consulting an attorney, Lee filed a formal police complaint at Gangnam Police Station, accusing the individual of:
- Blackmail
- Defamation
- Violating the Information and Communications Network Act
Lee said he felt constant anger as the situation escalated, especially as A’s posts caused immediate fallout in his professional commitments.
Impact on ‘Hangout With Yoo’ and Other Programs
The actor revealed that although A eventually claimed everything was fabricated and vanished, the damage had already been done.
He was advised to step down from “Hangout With Yoo,” and with no option left, he voluntarily left the show.
He also addressed the earlier “no-chewing noodles” controversy from his time on the program. Lee stated:
- He initially refused to participate
- The team insisted they had already rented a noodle shop “because of him”
- When backlash followed, the production team simply told him, “We were in a hurry”
- He ended up facing criticism alone
The fallout wasn’t limited to one show. Lee revealed he was supposed to appear on The Return of Superman via VCR segments, only to discover he had been replaced after the controversy surfaced.
Current Projects Continue Without Issue
Despite the turbulence, Lee reassured fans that his upcoming work remains on track. He shared that filming for his movie Regret Of The Times has finished, and his projects in Vietnam, overseas dramas, and other variety shows are moving forward as planned.
But when it comes to the individual behind the malicious posts, Lee made his intentions clear:
“Once the warrant is issued, the suspect will be identified. Even if they are in Germany, I will go there myself to file the complaint.”
Appreciation for Fans and Colleagues
In his closing remarks, Lee expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who stayed by his side through the controversy.
“Thank you to the fans who trusted and waited for me, and to everyone from ‘I’m Solo,’ ‘Brave Detectives,’ ‘Handsome Guys’ and more who believed in me,” he wrote.
Background: How the Rumors Began
Last month, Lee Yi Kyung became embroiled in online controversy after posts on X (formerly Twitter) accused him of exchanging explicit messages and photos. His agency immediately denied the claims and vowed strict legal action, citing significant emotional and reputational harm caused by the false posts.
With this latest police complaint, Lee is now addressing the issue directly and publicly — determined to clear his name and hold the person responsible.
