After a successful theatrical run, Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi’s courtroom drama Jolly LLB 3 is all set to make its digital debut this Friday, November 14. But what makes this release truly unique is that the film will reportedly stream on two major OTT platforms — Netflix and JioHotstar — a rare move in today’s exclusive-content era.
A First-of-Its-Kind Release
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Usually, a filmmaker signs an exclusive deal with only one streaming giant for his or her film. In the case of Jolly LLB 3, it is expected to be available on two platforms — Netflix as well as JioHotstar. That’s the reason both platforms were mentioned in the opening slate of the film.”
While this dual release strategy has sparked curiosity, it’s still unclear whether the film will drop on both platforms simultaneously on November 14, or if it will follow a staggered release pattern — with one platform premiering the movie first and the other joining later.
The Changing OTT Trend
This move reflects the emerging trend of content rights sharing in India’s OTT landscape. Rising streaming costs and a competitive digital market are pushing platforms to collaborate rather than compete head-on.
Earlier this year, John Abraham’s political thriller Tehran released on Zee5 on August 14 and arrived on Netflix two weeks later, on August 28. Similarly, Maddock Films’ previous titles like Mimi (2021) and Dasvi (2022) were made available on multiple platforms, including Netflix and JioCinema, right from their digital debut.
According to a July 19 report by The Economic Times, this co-streaming model is gradually becoming more common. The Tamil film Viduthalai 2 was streamed on both Zee5 and Amazon Prime Video, with a three-month gap between premieres. The Telugu movie Mazaka followed a similar approach but with just a 30-day interval.
