Alpha may not have delivered the explosive opening usually expected from a Yash Raj Films Spy Universe release, but the film has managed to pick up pace on its first Saturday. Led by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, the action thriller entered cinemas as the franchise’s first standalone female-led story. While mixed reviews affected its opening-day momentum, the second day’s numbers suggest the film is gradually finding its audience, both in India and overseas.
The weekend has now become crucial for Alpha as trade circles watch whether positive audience response can translate into stronger collections. Although it still trails behind previous entries in the YRF Spy Universe, Saturday brought a noticeable improvement over Friday and pushed the film closer to an important worldwide milestone.
Alpha Crosses ₹37 Crore Worldwide In Two Days
According to early estimates from trade tracker Sacnilk, Alpha collected ₹11.25 crore net in India on Day 2 across approximately 6,882 shows. This takes the film’s India net total to ₹20.50 crore, while its India gross collection has reached ₹24.60 crore after two days in theatres.
The film also maintained a steady run in overseas territories. On Saturday alone, Alpha earned an estimated ₹7 crore gross internationally, taking its overseas total to ₹13 crore gross. Combining domestic and international business, the film has now collected approximately ₹37.60 crore worldwide gross within just two days of release.
Although the numbers remain lower than the franchise’s recent blockbusters, the Saturday growth offers some relief for the makers after the film’s comparatively slow opening. The real test, however, will be Sunday’s performance, which is expected to determine whether Alpha can post a healthy opening weekend before weekdays begin.
Saturday Growth Brings Hope After A Quiet Opening
Before its release, Alpha generated considerable excitement as the first female-led chapter in the YRF Spy Universe. Advance bookings were respectable but fell short of the massive pre-release demand seen for earlier films led by franchise stars. The opening day reflected that cautious response, with audience turnout remaining below expectations despite the film’s wide release.
Saturday, however, showed signs of improvement as occupancy increased in several urban markets. While the jump wasn’t extraordinary by franchise standards, it indicated that audience curiosity remained intact following the film’s release. If positive word of mouth continues through the weekend, Alpha still has an opportunity to strengthen its theatrical run during the coming days.
Alia Bhatt And Sharvari Lead A New Era Of The Spy Universe
Directed by Shiv Rawail, Alpha marks the first time the YRF Spy Universe has centred its story around two female intelligence agents. Alia Bhatt and Sharvari headline the film as elite operatives who join forces for a high-risk mission, while Bobby Deol plays the primary antagonist and Anil Kapoor appears in a key supporting role.
Long-time franchise fans are also treated to the return of Hrithik Roshan as Kabir Dhaliwal in a special appearance, further connecting Alpha with the larger spy universe. Released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, the film combines large-scale action, espionage and emotional drama while introducing a fresh direction for the expanding franchise.
Alpha follows blockbuster entries including Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan, Tiger 3 and War 2, making it one of Yash Raj Films’ most ambitious experiments within the shared universe. With nearly ₹40 crore already collected worldwide in just two days, the spotlight now shifts to Sunday, where a strong performance could significantly improve the film’s opening weekend total and set the tone for its weekday run.
