Laapataa Ladies Actor Alleges Threats Over Unpaid Dues

ANI

The struggles behind the glamour of the film industry rarely come into public view, but actor Satendra Soni has now brought one such experience into the spotlight. The actor, who appeared in Aamir Khan-backed Laapataa Ladies, shared an emotional video on social media claiming he was denied his agreed payment after completing several days of work on a film in Madhya Pradesh. Fighting back tears, he alleged that asking for his rightful dues led to threats instead of answers, sparking concern among fellow artists and film workers.

The incident has now drawn the attention of the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA), which has urged the Madhya Pradesh government to take immediate action. The organisation described the allegations as serious and called for a fair investigation into the matter. The controversy has once again reignited discussions about delayed payments and the treatment of artists working across different levels of the film industry.

AICWA seeks action after actor’s allegations

Responding to Satendra Soni’s claims, AICWA released a detailed statement on its official X account. The association said that, according to the actor, he was invited to Maihar in Madhya Pradesh for the shooting of a film and completed eight days of work. It added that he allegedly received only an advance payment of ₹50,000 and was neither paid the remaining amount nor treated fairly when he demanded his dues. The body also noted that Satendra’s emotional video reflected the distress he said he had gone through and that no artist or worker should have to face such circumstances.

The association further stated that complaints involving delayed or denied payments are not uncommon within the industry. It said many artists and technicians have alleged that they are promised timely remuneration before joining projects, only to encounter payment delays or intimidation later. According to AICWA, Satendra’s public statement has brought attention to issues that many workers quietly endure without speaking out. The organisation stressed that such complaints deserve proper scrutiny rather than being overlooked.

Calling for immediate intervention, AICWA urged Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to direct the police to register an FIR based on the allegations made by the actor. The association also requested that authorities ensure the safety of artists and film workers operating in the state. It added that every professional working in cinema deserves dignity, timely payment and protection from threats or harassment, regardless of the size of their role.

Satendra Soni shares his version of events

In the caption accompanying his Instagram video, Satendra explained what he claims happened during the production of the film Ped Palki. He wrote, “Hello, my name is Satendra Soni. I am an actor. I went to Maihar, Madhya Pradesh, to shoot for a film called Ped Palki. The director and producer for it is Pushpendra Singh, who also made Ajmer 92. They just sent me ₹50,000 in advance to come to shoot, and committed to make the rest of the payment during the shoot.”

The actor further claimed, “I had a total of 10 days’ job of shooting. After 7-8 days, they didn’t pay me anything. There, I also heard people in the unit saying no one got paid. When I asked about payment, I was told to pack up. Pushpendra started threatening me and said, ‘You check out from the hotel in 10 minutes, you should not be seen in the hotel, or else we will kill you.’ His wife, Pragati Chauhan, who was the heroine of the movie, also scolded and hurled dirty abuses at me. I was very scared, and as I started checking out of the hotel in fear. Shreedhar Dubey and Pankaj Sharma also came with me.”

As of now, the producer and director named by Satendra have not publicly responded to the allegations. Their version of events has also not been made available at the time of writing. Since the matter involves serious accusations, further developments are likely to depend on whether an official investigation is initiated by the authorities.

Actor’s video sparks wider industry conversation

Satendra Soni may not always headline major films, but he has steadily built his career through supporting roles in projects such as Laapataa Ladies, Doctor G, Bawaal, Raat Akeli Hai: The Bansal Murders, and the television show Hello Bachhon. His latest video has resonated with many people in the industry, with several social media users expressing concern over the challenges faced by character actors and technicians. The incident has also renewed calls for stronger safeguards to ensure artists receive timely payments and can raise workplace concerns without fear of retaliation.

While the allegations are yet to be tested through an official legal process, the episode has once again highlighted the difficult realities that can exist behind film productions. Industry organisations have long advocated for better contractual protections and faster resolution of payment disputes. Whether this case leads to further action remains to be seen, but it has already opened another conversation about accountability and working conditions within the entertainment business.
