Invincible Renewed for Season 6 Ahead of Season 5

Invincible

Prime Video isn’t slowing down with Invincible anytime soon. In a major vote of confidence for one of its biggest animated franchises, the streaming platform has officially renewed the superhero series for a sixth season, even though Season 5 is still months away from reaching viewers.

The announcement arrived during the Annecy International Animation Festival, where creator Robert Kirkman shared fresh updates about the future of the show. The early renewal signals just how valuable Invincible has become for Prime Video, especially after the latest season delivered its strongest performance yet across international markets.

Prime Video Doubles Down on Its Superhero Hit

Most streaming platforms wait until a season airs before making renewal decisions. Invincible has managed to break that pattern. With Season 4 already completed behind the scenes and Season 5 scheduled for release next year, Prime Video has now committed to a sixth chapter in Mark Grayson’s story.

According to Skybound Entertainment, Season 4 became the most-watched season of the series so far. The show reportedly entered the top ten rankings in more than 50 territories, highlighting its growing appeal well beyond North America. For an animated adult superhero series, those numbers represent a significant achievement in an increasingly crowded streaming landscape.

The show’s popularity has also exploded on social media. Skybound says Invincible-related content has generated more than seven billion views on TikTok, helping introduce the franchise to younger audiences who may never have picked up the original comic books.

That combination of streaming success and online engagement has transformed Invincible from a cult favorite into one of Prime Video’s flagship properties.

Jack Quaid Joins the Cast as New Details Emerge

Alongside the renewal news, Kirkman revealed another surprise for fans attending Annecy. Actor Jack Quaid is set to join the voice cast in Season 5, adding another recognizable name to an already star-studded lineup.

Festival attendees were shown an exclusive clip featuring Quaid’s character, along with a first-look image that offered a small preview of what’s coming next. While details about the role remain under wraps, the reveal generated plenty of excitement among fans following developments from the event.

The series already features an impressive voice cast led by Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson, alongside JK Simmons as Omni-Man and Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson. Over the years, Invincible has attracted numerous high-profile actors, helping elevate its profile among mainstream audiences.

As the show’s universe continues expanding, new characters and storylines are expected to play an increasingly important role in future seasons.

The Comic Legacy Still Fuels the Series

Part of Invincible’s strength comes from the enormous amount of source material still waiting to be adapted. The comic series, created by Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker before Ryan Ottley later joined as a key contributor, first launched in 2003 through Image Comics.

Over a 15-year run, the series spanned 146 issues and sold more than six million copies worldwide. Unlike many superhero comics that continue indefinitely, Invincible told a complete story with a defined ending. That gives the television adaptation a clear roadmap while still leaving room for creative expansion.

The story follows teenager Mark Grayson, who discovers he has inherited extraordinary powers from his father, Nolan Grayson, better known as Omni-Man. What begins as a familiar superhero coming-of-age tale gradually evolves into something far darker, mixing brutal action, family drama, political conflicts, and galaxy-spanning threats.

That willingness to challenge traditional superhero storytelling has helped Invincible stand apart from both Marvel and DC projects.

Robert Kirkman Teases a Long Future Ahead

During his Annecy masterclass, Kirkman reflected on the franchise’s long journey and revealed an interesting piece of behind-the-scenes history. Years before the animated series became a success, he had been developing an Invincible movie script for Universal Pictures.

According to Kirkman, that version never moved forward and the script was “absolutely horrible.” Looking back now, the creator seemed more amused than disappointed, considering how successful the animated adaptation has ultimately become.

Kirkman also made it clear that the story is far from finished. In a statement following the renewal, he celebrated both the fans and the creative teams that helped turn Invincible into a global hit.

“One of the biggest rewards of building Invincible over the years has been witnessing how new audiences continue to connect with these characters and this world, almost 25 years after its creation,” said Kirkman.

He also praised longtime supervising directors Shaun O’Neill and Dan Duncan for their contributions behind the scenes and confirmed they will continue helping shape the show’s future as executive producers.

Perhaps the most exciting part for fans was Kirkman’s suggestion that the roadmap extends well beyond the newly announced season. He emphasized that there is still plenty of story left to adapt and expressed excitement about what viewers will see in Seasons 5, 6, and beyond.

For Prime Video, that’s exactly the kind of long-running franchise every streaming service wants. And for Invincible fans, it means Mark Grayson’s journey is nowhere near its final chapter.
