A surprising scene unfolded at the revered Dhandayudhapani Swamy Temple in Palani when devotional chants were suddenly replaced by a political campaign song featuring Tamil superstar-turned-politician Vijay.
Yes, you read that right — a youth allegedly tapped into the temple’s public address system and blasted a campaign track linked to Vijay’s political outfit, leaving devotees stunned.
What Exactly Happened?
According to PTI, the incident took place along the ‘Yaanai Paadhai’ (Elephant Path) stretch of the hill shrine. A video that quickly went viral on social media shows an unidentified young man connecting his mobile phone to the temple’s audio console and playing the song at full volume.
The track has reportedly been used during campaign events of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, the political party launched by Vijay ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu elections.
Temple authorities say the youth accessed the microphone station during a brief window when staff members were not present. The system is typically reserved for security announcements and devotional hymns — not political anthems.
The contrast was jarring. Devotees in the footage can be seen reacting in disbelief; some appear visibly upset, while others try to confront the youth as the song echoes across the sacred premises.
Police Complaint and Internal Probe
The temple administration has now filed a formal police complaint. Law enforcement officials are reportedly tracking the digital trail of the viral clip to identify the youth and anyone else involved.
An internal inquiry has also been initiated to determine how such a security lapse occurred in one of Tamil Nadu’s most significant pilgrimage sites.
Given the sensitive nature of both religious spaces and political campaigns, the episode has sparked strong reactions online — with many debating whether it was an act of fandom gone too far.
Vijay’s Political Leap Amid Film Uncertainty
The controversy arrives at a crucial moment for Vijay. Often referred to as “Thalapathy” by his fans, he has dominated the Tamil box office over the past decade, outperforming heavyweights like Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith Kumar, and Suriya in terms of consistent commercial success.
But the actor has now shifted focus toward politics. After his upcoming film Jana Nayagan, he is expected to step fully into public life under the banner of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
Interestingly, Jana Nayagan itself has been facing turbulence. Directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, the film was initially slated for release last month but was delayed due to certification issues with the CBFC. The producers had even approached court, claiming a massive ₹500 crore investment was at stake. However, the court upheld the CBFC’s position, and the film is still awaiting certification and a revised release date.
The film reportedly also features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Narain, and Priyamani, and is said to be inspired by the Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari.
Final Words
What began as a fan moment quickly escalated into a full-blown controversy. While Vijay’s political ambitions are no secret, blending campaign messaging with a temple’s sacred sound system has clearly crossed a line for many.
Whether this was mischief, overenthusiastic fandom, or something more coordinated remains to be seen. But one thing is certain — as Vijay transitions from cinema to politics, every move, even those made by his supporters, will be under sharper scrutiny than ever before.
