Things have gone from bad to worse for Vijay’s much-awaited Jana Nayagan. Just days after the film leaked online, a shocking new twist has hit — the unreleased movie was illegally aired on a local TV channel, sending the Tamil film industry into panic mode.

Leak goes from online to live broadcast

The incident unfolded on April 11, when a Coimbatore-based channel reportedly aired portions of the leaked film.

The channel, Raasi Prime Movie, telecast around 20 minutes of the film late at night across areas like Somanur and Karumathampatti. What started as an online piracy issue quickly escalated into a full-blown public broadcast — something rarely seen even in major leak cases.

The moment word spread, local supporters of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam stepped in and approached the police, triggering immediate action.

Police step in, arrest made within hours

Authorities didn’t take long to respond.

Under the direction of Superintendent K Karthikeyan, special teams were formed to track the source. The investigation led to the arrest of S Palanisamy, the owner of the channel.

Officials seized multiple devices from the premises — including computers and hard drives — and sealed the office. The accused has now been sent to judicial custody as the probe continues.

Already hit by a major leak

This isn’t the first blow.

On April 9, the entire film surfaced online in HD quality, triggering massive concern among the makers. The cybercrime wing had earlier arrested six individuals linked to that leak, with the production house naming over 20 suspects in its complaint.

Backed by KVN Productions, the team has warned of strict legal action against anyone sharing or downloading pirated content, calling the damage “massive” for a film mounted on a reported ₹500 crore budget.

Industry reacts strongly

The controversy hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Veterans like Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, and Chiranjeevi have all spoken against piracy, urging stricter enforcement and respect for creative work.

For many in the industry, this isn’t just about one film — it’s about a growing pattern that’s getting harder to control.

A film already stuck in trouble

Even before the leak drama, Jana Nayagan was facing delays.

The film has been caught in a long certification battle with the CBFC, which reportedly asked for multiple cuts. Despite revisions, clearance hasn’t come through, pushing the release beyond its original Pongal 2026 plan.

Legal routes — including approaching higher courts — haven’t offered quick relief either, keeping the film in limbo for months.

What makes this bigger than just piracy

There’s more at stake here.

Directed by H Vinoth and featuring names like Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde, the film is widely seen as Vijay’s final project before his full political transition.

That alone makes its release crucial — not just commercially, but symbolically.

Where things stand now

With leaks already circulating and now a TV broadcast adding to the damage, the road ahead looks complicated.

Legal action is underway, arrests have been made, and the makers are trying to contain the fallout. But the bigger question remains — can the film recover from this level of exposure before it even hits theatres?

Right now, Jana Nayagan isn’t just fighting censorship.

It’s fighting survival.
