Aditya Dhar Gets Court Relief in ‘Dhurandhar 2’ Script Row as Film Continues Record-Breaking Run

Just when Dhurandhar: The Revenge is dominating the box office, director Aditya Dhar has scored a major legal win off-screen. The Bombay High Court has stepped in, putting a temporary stop to allegations that the blockbuster sequel’s script was copied.

In a key interim order, the court has restrained filmmaker Santosh Kumar from repeating claims that Dhar stole the story of Dhurandhar from his script. The decision came after Dhar approached the court, arguing that these repeated accusations were damaging his reputation at a time when the film is at its peak success.

Justice Arif Doctor observed that Dhar had made a strong initial case, and until the next hearing, Kumar cannot make or circulate similar allegations. The matter will now be heard again on April 16, keeping the legal battle very much alive — but firmly controlled for now.

The controversy began shortly after the sequel’s release, when Kumar claimed that Dhurandhar 2 was based on his registered script titled D Saheb. He stated that the script was officially registered with the Screenwriters Association and hinted at legal action.

Dhar, however, wasted no time in pushing back. He first sent a legal notice denying all claims of plagiarism and asked Kumar to stop making such statements. When that didn’t happen, he escalated the matter to the Bombay High Court, seeking protection against what his legal team described as defamatory remarks.

And the timing of this dispute couldn’t be more high-stakes.

Dhurandhar: The Revenge isn’t just another hit — it’s rewriting box office history. The film has already crossed ₹1000 crore net in India, becoming the first Bollywood film to achieve that milestone. Globally, it has surged past ₹1600 crore, placing it among the biggest Indian films ever.

This kind of success naturally brings scrutiny — and sometimes, controversy. But with the court stepping in, Dhar has, for now, secured breathing room to focus on the film’s run rather than off-screen noise.

What makes the Dhurandhar franchise interesting is its scale. Originally conceived as a single film, the story was split into two parts just before release due to its massive runtime. Together, the films stretch beyond seven hours — a rare move in mainstream Hindi cinema, but one that clearly paid off.

Led by Ranveer Singh, the franchise also features a strong ensemble including Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun — adding depth to its large-scale narrative.

Now, with both box office dominance and legal backing on his side, Aditya Dhar finds himself in a powerful position.

But the bigger picture is worth noting — success at this level often attracts disputes, especially around originality in storytelling. The coming hearing will decide how this case unfolds further, but for now, the court’s message is clear: the allegations need to pause.

And while the legal drama continues in the background, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is still doing what it does best — breaking records and staying firmly in the spotlight.
