Supreme Court Fines Samay Raina Rs 3 Lakh In Latent Case

The legal battle surrounding India’s Got Latent has taken another significant turn, with the Supreme Court imposing financial penalties on comedian Samay Raina and several others over what it described as non-compliance with earlier undertakings. The court made it clear that assurances given before the country’s highest judicial authority cannot be treated casually. Alongside the monetary penalty, the bench also issued a fresh warning that stricter action could follow if its directions are ignored again.

The order comes as the controversy linked to India’s Got Latent continues to attract public attention, months after the matter first reached the courts. While the show recently returned with a new season, the legal proceedings remain active, putting some of the personalities associated with the controversy back in the spotlight.

Supreme Court pulls up Samay Raina and others

The Supreme Court directed Samay Raina, Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani and two other parties connected to the case to pay a fine of Rs 3 lakh each. The court observed that earlier commitments made before it had not been honoured, leading to strong remarks during the hearing. The matter was heard by a bench led by Chief Justice Surya Kant along with Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana.

Expressing its displeasure, the bench stated, “We have no reason to doubt that Samay Raina has taken the court for a ride. He is in brazen violation of statements/undertakings given before this court. The misconduct is sought to be compounded by stating that a compliance affidavit was filed yesterday; however, no affidavit has been filed.”

The court has directed Samay Raina to deposit the Rs 3 lakh fine within two weeks. He has also been granted an additional 15 days to submit a proper compliance affidavit explaining his actions. The bench cautioned that if he fails to meet the deadline again, coercive action may be initiated against him.

Solicitor General says youth deserve better role models

During the proceedings, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta also made a pointed observation while addressing the court. Referring to the larger impact of digital creators and influencers, he argued that young people in the country deserve individuals who set a stronger example. His remarks came in the context of the ongoing India’s Got Latent controversy, which has remained under public scrutiny since it first surfaced.

The case has involved multiple petitions filed before the Supreme Court, including those by Ranveer Allahbadia, Ashish Chanchlani and the Cure SMA Foundation. The latest order marks another important development as the court continues to examine compliance with the undertakings previously submitted by those involved.

India’s Got Latent returns amid legal scrutiny

Even as the legal proceedings continue, India’s Got Latent has already returned with its second season. The new season premiered on June 20, 2026, with episodes releasing simultaneously on Netflix and YouTube, allowing the show to reach a wider audience than before. Its launch generated considerable interest, particularly because of its high-profile celebrity guests.

The opening episode featured Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, helping the series attract significant viewership soon after its release. However, the show’s comeback has also coincided with renewed attention on the ongoing court case, keeping both its legal and entertainment narratives in public discussion.

The Supreme Court’s latest order signals that compliance with judicial directions remains a serious matter regardless of a person’s public profile or popularity. While India’s Got Latent continues its streaming run, the legal proceedings surrounding the controversy are far from over, and the next steps will largely depend on whether the court’s latest directions are fully complied with within the stipulated timeline.
