Veteran actor Annu Kapoor has finally addressed the controversy surrounding his “dudhiya badan” (milky body) comment about Tamannaah Bhatia, which sparked strong reactions online. The remark, made during a podcast while discussing her performance in Aaj Ki Raat, quickly turned into a debate around language, intent, and boundaries in public conversations.
Speaking about the backlash, Annu Kapoor clarified that his comment came from a place of appreciation, not anything inappropriate. He explained that he had watched the song during a US tour after his team suggested it as a challenging performance track. According to him, he was impressed by Tamannaah’s dancing and overall screen presence, and the remark was simply a spontaneous expression of that admiration.
What added fuel to the controversy, he believes, was the language used. Kapoor argued that if he had described her in English using a similar phrase, the reaction might have been far less intense. In his view, the Hindi phrasing triggered a stronger emotional response, even though the intent behind it remained the same.
He also made it clear that noticing someone’s physical appearance doesn’t automatically imply desire or disrespect. Drawing a distinction between admiration and intent, Kapoor said appreciating beauty should not be misinterpreted as something inappropriate. At the same time, he acknowledged the sensitivity of the situation and said he has no hesitation in apologising if Tamannaah felt hurt.
In fact, he went a step further, saying he would be willing to personally apologise in a traditional gesture if needed. He mentioned that if Tamannaah asked him directly, he would admit to making the comment and even touch her feet as a sign of respect — a statement that reflects both his attempt to de-escalate the situation and his awareness of the backlash.
On the other side, Tamannaah responded to the discussion in a more measured way. She spoke about body positivity and emphasized that there should be no shame in celebrating different forms of beauty. Rather than reacting defensively, she highlighted the importance of self-acceptance and encouraged a broader perspective on how people view physical appearance.
The controversy itself started when Kapoor, during a conversation on a podcast, reacted to a question about Tamannaah by praising her appearance with the now-viral phrase. A follow-up joke during the same discussion added to the chatter online, turning what may have been a casual remark into a widely debated topic.
At its core, the situation reflects a larger shift in how audiences interpret public statements today. Language, tone, and context are being examined more closely than ever, especially when it comes to comments about appearance. What might have once passed as casual praise is now being viewed through a more critical lens — and that’s a space where intent and impact don’t always align.
