After riding high on the success of Border 2, Sunny Deol isn’t slowing down — he’s actually shifting gears.
The actor has now begun shooting for a new untitled action thriller backed by Excel Entertainment, marking his first collaboration with A. R. Murugadoss. And from early details, this isn’t just another loud mass entertainer… it’s something slightly different.
That’s the interesting part.
For years, Sunny has been associated with that intense, punch-heavy, larger-than-life image. But this time, sources suggest he’s stepping into a “completely new zone.” What that exactly means isn’t fully clear yet, but it sounds like a character-driven shift rather than just action for the sake of it.
Also joining him in the film is Jyotika, which already adds a fresh pairing we haven’t really seen before. The project will be directed by Balaji Ganesh, making his feature debut — so there’s a mix of experience and new energy behind the scenes.
The timing of this move feels intentional.
Border 2 did solid business and reminded audiences of Sunny’s mass appeal again. Instead of repeating the same formula immediately, he seems to be experimenting a bit — still within action, but with a different tone.
And his lineup right now? Packed.
He’s got Gabru releasing soon, an OTT debut with Ikka alongside Akshaye Khanna, and Soorya in post-production. Then there’s Lahore 1947 and the big mythological film Ramayana where he plays Lord Hanuman — which is a completely different scale altogether.
So yeah, this new Murugadoss-backed film fits right into that phase where he’s trying different spaces instead of sticking to just one image.
At this point, it doesn’t feel like a comeback anymore.
It feels more like Sunny Deol is rebuilding his second innings — slowly, but with smarter choices this time.
