Grammy-winning composer Ricky Kej has added his voice to a long-running conversation around Priyanka Chopra Jonas — and he didn’t mince words. According to Kej, Priyanka remains underrated in India, despite being the only Indian actor to genuinely break into Hollywood with consistent, mainstream roles.
Sharing his thoughts on social media on January 9, Kej praised Priyanka’s global journey while reposting a fan-made trailer of her upcoming international film The Bluff.
“The one actor we don’t celebrate enough”
In his post, Kej made it clear that Priyanka’s achievements deserve far more recognition back home. He described her as the only Indian actor across generations to have truly made waves internationally — not through token appearances, but by playing central, well-written roles.
He highlighted how Priyanka has worked alongside some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Idris Elba, Dwayne Johnson, Keanu Reeves, Karl Urban, Richard Madden, Stanley Tucci, Will Ferrell, Anthony Mackie, John Cena, and Pedro Pascal. According to Kej, that list alone sets her apart.
What impressed him most, however, was not just the scale of her co-stars — but the nature of her work. He pointed out that Priyanka isn’t cast as a vague “exotic” presence, but as a fully realised character who leads stories across genres, from action and drama to comedy.
More than just an actor
Kej also acknowledged Priyanka’s work beyond cinema. He noted her role as a UNICEF ambassador, emphasising that her global influence extends into humanitarian work and social causes — something he feels often goes unnoticed in domestic conversations around her career.
He wrapped up his note by wishing her luck for The Bluff, encouraging audiences to root for her upcoming release.
All eyes on The Bluff
The Bluff recently unveiled its first look, introducing Priyanka as Ercell “Bloody Mary” Bodden, a former pirate queen who has escaped her violent past to live quietly on a Caribbean island in the late 1800s. The R-rated adventure thriller will stream on Prime Video from February 25.
Karl Urban stars opposite her as Captain Connor — Bloody Mary’s former lover and the current leader of her old crew. The film is produced by the Russo Brothers under their AGBO Studios banner, with Angela Russo-Otstot serving as chief creative officer.
A return to Indian cinema, too
While her Hollywood slate continues to expand, Priyanka is also gearing up for a long-awaited return to Indian cinema. She will next be seen in Varanasi, directed by S. S. Rajamouli, alongside Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film is slated for a theatrical release during Sankranthi 2027.
She will also return internationally in Season 2 of Citadel, once again sharing screen space with Richard Madden.
Final words
Ricky Kej’s comment struck a chord because it voiced what many quietly believe — that Priyanka Chopra’s global success is often discussed more abroad than at home. From leading Hollywood action films to representing India on international platforms, her journey is anything but ordinary.
Whether India chooses to celebrate her more loudly or not, Priyanka’s trajectory continues to speak for itself — global, fearless, and firmly mainstream.
