Rajpal Yadav is back in the headlines — this time not for a film, but for a legal battle that has stretched over a decade. Days after surrendering in a ₹9 crore cheque bounce case, the actor has been granted interim bail by the Delhi High Court and released from Tihar Jail until March 18.

Stepping out of prison, Rajpal addressed the media for the first time, striking a tone of gratitude and quiet confidence.

“I Am Available to Answer”: Rajpal Responds

Surrounded by his legal team, the actor thanked his supporters across the country and the film industry. In a video shared by ANI, Rajpal spoke about nearing a personal milestone — completing 30 years in Bollywood by 2027 — and acknowledged the love he has received from fans.

He said that if there are any allegations against him, he is fully prepared to answer them. Thanking the High Court for relief, Rajpal emphasized that people of all ages have stood by him during this difficult time.

Reports suggest he may also hold a press conference soon to address further questions about the case and clarify his position.

What the Delhi High Court Ordered

The interim relief was granted by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, who suspended Rajpal’s sentence until March 18. The bail came with conditions:

  • Deposit of ₹1 lakh as bail bond
  • One surety to be furnished
  • Confirmation that ₹1.5 crore had been deposited

During the hearing, the complainant — M/S Murli Project — confirmed that ₹1.5 crore had been credited against the bounced cheque amount. Only after this verification did the court grant interim bail.

However, the relief is temporary. Rajpal must clear the remaining dues before the next hearing to avoid serving his six-month sentence.

How the Case Began

The dispute dates back to 2010, when Rajpal reportedly borrowed ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murli Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata.

The film, unfortunately, underperformed at the box office, triggering repayment complications. Seven cheques issued to the lender bounced, leading to legal proceedings under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act.

In April 2018, a Magistrate Court convicted Rajpal and his wife Radha, sentencing him to six months of simple imprisonment. The Sessions Court upheld the conviction in 2019. Though Rajpal deposited ₹75 lakh in October 2025, courts observed that a significant portion of the liability remained unpaid.

Earlier this month, the High Court rejected his plea for more time to arrange funds, noting that nearly 20 previous undertakings had not been honoured. The court also stressed that celebrity status does not warrant endless leniency.

What Happens Next?

For now, Rajpal remains out of jail until March 18. The coming weeks will be crucial, as he is expected to repay the remaining amount before the next hearing.

The case has not only impacted the actor legally but also placed a spotlight on financial accountability in the entertainment industry — where passion projects sometimes come with high financial risks.

Final Words

Rajpal Yadav has spent decades making audiences laugh with his impeccable comic timing. Today, however, he faces one of the most serious chapters of his personal and professional life.

His statement suggests he is ready to confront the allegations head-on. Whether he can resolve the remaining dues in time will determine how this long-running legal saga ends.

For now, the actor is out on bail — but the story is far from over.
