February hasn’t exactly rolled out the red carpet for Bollywood.
Two new releases — Vadh 2 and Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain — have opened to disappointing numbers, setting a slow tone for the month. Despite recognizable names and familiar IP, the ticket windows stayed unusually quiet.
🎟️ The Opening Day Reality
Vadh 2, starring Sanjay Mishra, Kumud Mishra and Neena Gupta, managed to collect around ₹50 lakh on day one.
Meanwhile, Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain — adapted from the long-running television show of the same name — fared worse, earning just ₹23 lakh on its opening day. The film features Aasif Sheikh, Rohitashv Gour, Shubhangi Atre and Vidisha Srivastava in lead roles.
For an industry already navigating fluctuating audience turnout, these numbers are far from encouraging.
📈 A Slight Silver Lining for Vadh 2
If there’s any comfort, it lies with Vadh 2. The original Vadh had taken nearly a week to reach the kind of opening-day numbers that the sequel clocked on day one.
The film is written and directed by Jaspal Singh Sandhu and produced by Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg under Luv Films.
Additionally, the Buy-One-Get-One (BOGO) ticket offer appears to have helped boost footfalls slightly. If positive word-of-mouth builds over the weekend, the film could see a marginal rise on Saturday and Sunday, potentially securing a respectable first weekend total.
📉 Trouble for Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain
For Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, the situation looks more challenging.
Despite the original TV show enjoying cult popularity, the film adaptation hasn’t translated that loyalty into theatre occupancy. With opening numbers this low and reception hovering around average, the film would need an extraordinary turnaround to regain lost ground.
Directed by Shashank Bali, the film also features Ravi Kishan, Mukesh Tiwari and Dinesh Lal Yadav in supporting roles.
🎬 A Crowded Week Ahead
Both films now have just six days to stabilise before new releases hit theatres next Friday.
O Romeo, starring Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri, Vikrant Massey, Disha Patani, Nana Patekar and Avinash Tiwary, is gearing up for release. Alongside it arrives Tu Yaa Main, featuring Shanaya Kapoor and Adarsh Gourav.
With fresh competition coming in, the window for recovery is narrow.
💬 Final Words
February’s box office start has been underwhelming, reminding the industry once again that star power and popular IP aren’t guarantees anymore.
Vadh 2 still has a fighting chance if word-of-mouth swings in its favour. Bhabiji Ghar Par Hain, however, faces an uphill climb.
For now, Bollywood waits — hoping the weekend numbers bring some much-needed warmth to an otherwise cold start.
