There are comedy franchises that lose steam after a couple of installments, and then there’s Dhamaal, a series that somehow continues finding new ways to throw grown adults into the most ridiculous situations imaginable. Nearly two decades after the first film turned a simple treasure hunt into one of Bollywood’s most beloved comic adventures, the gang is back for another chaotic ride.
The trailer for Dhamaal 4 has finally arrived, and if first impressions are anything to go by, director Indra Kumar has no intention of fixing what isn’t broken. Instead, he’s doubling down on the franchise’s biggest strengths — over-the-top humor, absurd action sequences, signature one-liners, and a cast that understands exactly how ridiculous this world is supposed to be.
Released at a grand launch event at Adlabs Imagicaa Theme Park in Khopoli, Maharashtra, the trailer promises a loud, nostalgic entertainer packed with treasure hunts, jungle mayhem, and enough comic confusion to keep longtime fans smiling.
The Hunt for Shaitan Singh’s Treasure Begins Again
The trailer wastes no time pulling viewers into its madness.
It opens with Upendra Limaye hanging dangerously off a mountain cliff while the others desperately try to save him. Amid the panic comes the question that sets the entire story in motion: where is Shaitan Singh’s treasure hidden?
Fans of the original Dhamaal will immediately catch the callback.
Back then, the gang chased Rs 10 crore buried beneath the famous “W.” This time, the treasure is supposedly hidden beneath a giant “M,” setting off another race filled with greed, betrayal, and spectacular stupidity.
From there, the trailer becomes increasingly chaotic.
Characters run through forests while escaping tiger attacks. Boats struggle against violent waves. Explosions erupt. People fall from impossible heights. At one point, the visuals even evoke shades of Pirates of the Caribbean, blending adventure elements with slapstick comedy in a way that feels surprisingly ambitious for the franchise.
The scale certainly appears bigger than before.
Whether all of it lands perfectly is another question.
Nostalgia Works, Even When Some Jokes Feel Familiar
One of the trailer’s biggest strengths is understanding exactly who its audience is.
Dhamaal fans aren’t necessarily looking for reinvention. They’re returning because they want that familiar brand of chaos that made the earlier films endlessly rewatchable on television.
Thankfully, many of those ingredients remain intact.
The signature reactions, exaggerated misunderstandings, and wonderfully silly group dynamics still exist. Several jokes genuinely deliver laughs, particularly when the ensemble plays off each other’s energy.
At the same time, not every punchline hits with the same force.
A few references to older films feel slightly repetitive and rely heavily on audience familiarity rather than fresh creativity. Some comic beats seem designed more to trigger nostalgia than generate spontaneous laughter.
That’s not necessarily a deal-breaker.
But it does occasionally make the trailer feel like it’s leaning a bit too heavily on past successes instead of carving out new comic territory.
Even so, when Dhamaal embraces complete absurdity, it’s difficult not to enjoy the ride.
The Ensemble Cast Remains the Franchise’s Biggest Asset
What truly separates Dhamaal from countless other comedy franchises is its cast chemistry.
Ajay Devgn looks completely at ease navigating the madness around him. Riteish Deshmukh once again demonstrates why timing matters more than loudness in comedy. Ravi Kishan appears to bring a fresh dose of eccentric energy that fits naturally within the franchise’s universe.
Then there are the veterans audiences have been waiting to see.
Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi, Sanjay Mishra, and Vijay Patkar effortlessly slip back into the kind of comic rhythm that made earlier installments memorable. Their expressions alone often do half the work before the punchlines even arrive.
There’s a comfort in watching performers who understand exactly how far to push the ridiculousness without losing control of the scene.
The newer additions also manage to stand out despite limited trailer time.
Sanjeeda Shaikh and Anjali Anand appear to have substantial roles within the story rather than functioning as decorative additions to the male-led chaos. Meanwhile, Esha Gupta seems to have a brief but potentially amusing appearance as Ajay Devgn’s wife.
If the trailer is anything to go by, everyone involved understands the assignment.
No one’s trying to reinvent comedy.
They’re simply trying to make audiences laugh.
The Release Date Drama Behind Dhamaal 4
Interestingly, Dhamaal 4 has experienced almost as much movement behind the scenes as its characters do on screen.
The film was originally scheduled to release on July 3. However, in an effort to avoid clashing with Akshay Kumar’s Welcome To The Jungle, the makers shifted the release to July 17.
Then Bollywood’s release calendar changed again.
After Alia Bhatt’s Alpha moved into the July 3 slot, the Dhamaal 4 team quickly adjusted their strategy and locked July 10 as the final release date.
The reshuffle could work in the film’s favor.
Comedy entertainers often thrive when given breathing space at the box office, especially franchises carrying established audience goodwill. By avoiding direct competition with major tentpole releases, Dhamaal 4 may have positioned itself for a stronger theatrical run.
Given how family audiences often embrace broad comedy during holiday periods, the timing could prove beneficial.
Will Dhamaal 4 Deliver the Same Magic?
The biggest challenge facing Dhamaal 4 isn’t competing against other films.
It’s competing against memories.
The original Dhamaal enjoys cult status among Bollywood comedy lovers. Its jokes continue circulating through memes and television reruns, creating enormous affection that later installments have struggled to match consistently.
Based on the trailer, Indra Kumar appears aware of that pressure.
Rather than attempting to transform the franchise into something more sophisticated, he’s chosen familiarity. Bigger action sequences, larger treasure hunts, familiar faces, and enough nostalgic callbacks to remind viewers why they fell in love with these characters in the first place.
Will every joke land? Probably not.
Will some viewers complain that Bollywood comedies need fresher writing? Absolutely.
But there is also undeniable joy in watching talented comedians embrace complete chaos without apology.
The Dhamaal 4 trailer doesn’t promise subtle humor or groundbreaking storytelling.
What it does promise is two and a half hours of treasure hunts, misunderstandings, overreactions, jungle madness, and the kind of unapologetically goofy entertainment that Bollywood rarely delivers anymore.
And honestly, that might be exactly what audiences are looking for this summer.
Dhamaal 4 releases in theatres on July 10, 2026.
