Amazon MGM Studios has quietly removed Timothy Busfield from its upcoming romantic comedy You Deserve Each Other, following serious criminal charges filed against the actor, sources have confirmed.
The decision comes just days after Busfield was charged with two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor and child abuse, linked to alleged incidents involving two underage boys during the filming of the television series The Cleaning Lady in New Mexico, where he served as a director.
Role Cut After Filming Completed
Busfield had already completed filming for You Deserve Each Other, where he played Bernie — the father of the female lead. However, insiders say his role has now been fully edited out of the final cut.
The film, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, wrapped shooting recently and is currently in post-production. No release date has been announced yet.
Charges and Legal Status
Busfield, 68, reportedly turned himself in to Albuquerque police on January 13, five days after an arrest warrant was issued. He appeared briefly in court the following day and is currently being held without bond at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center.
If convicted, the actor could face up to ten years in state prison. While he has not entered a formal plea, Busfield has maintained his innocence. A pre-trial detention motion hearing is scheduled in the coming days.
Amid the fallout, Busfield has also been dropped by his longtime talent agency, Innovative Artists.
About You Deserve Each Other
Based on Sarah Hogle’s bestselling 2020 novel, You Deserve Each Other stars Meghann Fahy and Penn Badgley as a seemingly perfect engaged couple secretly desperate to end their relationship. The twist? Whoever calls off the wedding has to pay for it.
What follows is a series of pranks and emotional sabotage — until the couple unexpectedly begins rediscovering why they fell in love in the first place.
The ensemble cast also includes Natalie Morales, Justin Long, Kyle MacLachlan, Ana Gasteyer, Hope Davis, Lisa Gilroy, and Alyssa Limperis.
The film is directed by Marc Silverstein and Abby Kohn, who also revised the script adaptation.
Studio Remains Silent
Amazon MGM Studios has not issued an official statement regarding the recasting or removal, and did not respond to requests for comment.
Final Words
The removal of Timothy Busfield from You Deserve Each Other reflects a growing industry pattern of swift action when serious allegations surface — even after production has wrapped. While the legal process is still unfolding, the studio appears to be distancing the film from controversy as it prepares for release.
Whether the changes impact the film’s final narrative remains to be seen, but the move signals that studios are increasingly unwilling to take risks when it comes to unresolved criminal cases involving cast members.
