Sean “Diddy” Combs’ projected release date from federal prison has shifted once more, marking the latest development in the music mogul’s ongoing legal saga. While the adjustment shortens his expected time behind bars by several weeks, it does little to change the broader reality facing the former Bad Boy Records founder, whose criminal conviction and mounting civil litigation continue to dominate headlines.
According to updated records cited by USA TODAY, Diddy is now expected to be released from FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey on February 23, 2028. The revised date moves his release forward from the previously listed April 25, 2028 timeline, reducing his projected incarceration period by roughly two months.
For someone whose legal troubles have unfolded under intense public scrutiny, even routine administrative updates are drawing significant attention.
Why Diddy’s Release Date Changed Again
The Federal Bureau of Prisons has not publicly provided a specific explanation for the latest adjustment to Combs’ release schedule. However, the agency indicated that projected release dates frequently change due to a range of standard factors applied to federal inmates.
Those factors can include “good conduct time,” participation in approved prison programs and institutional activities, as well as credit granted for time already served before formal sentencing.
The bureau also maintained its longstanding policy regarding individual inmates.
It stated that it does “not discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual, including release plans.”
As a result, while the revised February 2028 date has now been listed, officials have not clarified precisely which factors contributed to the change in Combs’ case.
What is clear is that this is not the first time his expected release timeline has been revised.
A Timeline That Has Shifted Multiple Times
Diddy’s prison schedule has undergone several adjustments in recent months, fueling continued interest in his status within the federal system.
USA TODAY previously reported that his projected release date had been pushed back to June 2028 following allegations that he had created and consumed alcohol while incarcerated. Those reports generated widespread discussion at the time, with questions emerging over whether disciplinary action could impact sentence calculations.
A representative for Combs denied those allegations.
The latest revision now moves his anticipated release significantly earlier than those earlier projections.
Combs has been housed at the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey, since his conviction last year. The music executive was sentenced to 50 months in prison after being found guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
The federal case attracted enormous public attention given Diddy’s status as one of the most influential figures in hip-hop and entertainment over the last three decades.
Before sentencing, Combs submitted a letter to the judge describing personal changes he claimed to have made while in custody.
He wrote that he had become sober “for the first time in 25 years.”
The letter also stated that he had been attending therapy sessions and had launched a mentorship initiative aimed at supporting fellow inmates.
Appeals Continue as Civil Cases Mount
Despite serving his sentence, Diddy’s legal fight is far from over.
His attorneys continue working to overturn the federal conviction through the appeals process. Prosecutors had alleged during trial that Combs transported former girlfriends and sex workers across state lines for the purpose of prostitution.
Among those referenced during proceedings was singer Cassie Ventura, whose allegations helped intensify scrutiny surrounding the music mogul. Another accuser involved in the case was identified under the pseudonym “Jane.”
Combs has consistently denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.
At the same time, the criminal conviction represents only one part of the legal challenges confronting him.
The rapper and entrepreneur is reportedly facing more than 70 civil lawsuits filed across the United States. The claims span a wide range of allegations, and several cases continue moving through the court system. The most recent lawsuit was reportedly filed on June 9 by a former child actor.
Meanwhile, Combs recently secured a legal victory in one of those civil disputes after a lawsuit brought by former Danity Kane member Dawn Richard was dismissed. However, according to reports, Richard’s legal team has indicated plans to refile the case.
The combination of appeals, civil proceedings and public scrutiny means that even after his eventual release, Diddy’s legal troubles are unlikely to disappear overnight.
For now, the revised release date offers a modest shift in timeline rather than a dramatic change in circumstances. Barring further adjustments, Sean “Diddy” Combs is expected to walk out of FCI Fort Dix on February 23, 2028.
But by the time that day arrives, the outcome of his appeal efforts and the dozens of pending civil cases may prove just as consequential to his future as the sentence he is currently serving. The man who once stood among the most powerful names in the music business remains at the center of one of entertainment’s most closely watched legal battles, and that story is still unfolding.
