Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos is showing a small but noticeable upward movement at the box office. The spy-comedy, led by Vir Das, witnessed a marginal improvement on its second day, offering a modest sense of relief for the makers after a quiet opening.
According to early trade estimates, the film collected around ₹1.50 crore (net) on Saturday, slightly higher than its ₹1.25 crore opening day figure. With that, its total India net collection now stands at approximately ₹2.75 crore after two days.
Slow growth, but a steady hold
While the Day 2 jump suggests some audience curiosity kicking in, Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos continues to struggle in core Hindi-speaking belts. Theatre occupancy has remained on the lower side, pointing to limited mass traction so far.
On Saturday, the film recorded an overall Hindi occupancy of about 12.73%. Morning shows opened weak at 8.72%, followed by afternoon and evening occupancies hovering around the 12% mark. Night shows performed comparatively better, touching 17.38%, indicating that urban audiences and late-show viewers are responding more positively to the film’s offbeat tone.
Vir Das reacts with trademark humour
Speaking on the sidelines of the Jaipur Literature Festival, Vir Das addressed the film’s box office journey with his signature self-aware humour. Comparing his film’s scale to bigger releases, he joked that Happy Patel’s budget is probably “less than the catering budget” of Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar.
Despite the comparison, Das made it clear that the team is content with how the film has opened. He admitted that expectations were modest and that the opening numbers exceeded what many had predicted for a niche release.
A niche comedy playing to its own crowd
Describing the film as an “absurd, niche comedy,” Das said the makers are encouraged by the initial audience feedback, even if the numbers aren’t blockbuster-level. He stressed that for a small film like this, the weekend trajectory matters more than headline figures.
According to him, the coming days will be crucial in determining whether the film can sustain itself through word of mouth, especially among viewers who enjoy unconventional humour and genre-bending storytelling.
Cast, crew, and backing
The film also stars Mithila Palkar, Mona Singh, and Imran Khan in key roles. It is produced by Aamir Khan Productions and co-directed by Vir Das and Kavi Shastri.
Final words
Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos may not be setting the box office on fire, but its steady Day 2 growth suggests it hasn’t lost steam just yet. For a small, experimental spy-comedy competing against bigger titles, the real test now lies in sustained weekend growth and urban word of mouth. Whether that’s enough to push the film beyond its niche remains to be seen.
