Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut has doubled down on her claims against fashion designer Masaba Gupta, revisiting a painful episode from the past that, she says, continues to haunt her. After first speaking about the incident on Instagram Stories earlier in the day, Kangana returned on Saturday evening with an even more detailed account — this time on X — calling the experience deeply hurtful and rooted in prejudice.
“Why weren’t those images ever used?”
Addressing questions raised after her earlier post, Kangana questioned why Masaba or her brand never acknowledged her publicly despite the visibility she brought to the label at the time.
“Designers get very excited whenever their brands get seen on celebrities,” Kangana wrote, adding that photos of her wearing Masaba’s saree were widely circulated online. She asked why neither the designer nor the brand’s official handles ever shared those images, and why her stylist was discouraged from tagging the brand.
She explained that the styling was connected to promotions around Tejas, and that she had requested the same stylist — hired through the production — to assist her for a visit to Ram Janmabhoomi as well.
“When she was told it’s for Ram Janmabhoomi…”
In a longer follow-up, Kangana revealed what she says was the turning point. According to her, Masaba had initially sent clothes to the stylist for her promotional appearances. However, once it was made clear that the outfit would be worn for a Ram Janmabhoomi darshan, Kangana alleged that the designer asked the stylist not to use her clothes.
Kangana said the stylist, whom she described as kind and genuine, felt embarrassed and discreetly informed her not to tag Masaba or the brand. She further claimed that the stylist eventually paid for the saree herself to avoid further discomfort.
By the time Kangana became aware of what had unfolded, she said she was already dressed and on her way from Lucknow to Ayodhya.
“The hate, the bitterness, the prejudice… how ugly,” Kangana wrote, adding that the memory still makes her “sick to the stomach.”
Earlier emotional admission
Earlier in the day, Kangana had already shared how the incident left her shaken emotionally. She said she felt so humiliated that she quietly cried in her car after learning she was allegedly told not to visit Ram Janmabhoomi wearing Masaba’s saree. She also accused the designer of later instructing that neither her name nor the brand be mentioned publicly.
In the same post, Kangana linked the episode to the broader industry debate triggered by A. R. Rahman’s recent remarks, questioning what she described as selective outrage while ignoring personal prejudices within the industry.
Work front update
On the professional side, Kangana was last seen in Emergency, where she portrayed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. While the film generated discussion, it failed to make a significant impact at the box office.
Final words
Kangana Ranaut’s latest remarks add another intense chapter to her long-running critique of the film and fashion industries. Whether Masaba Gupta or her brand chooses to respond remains to be seen, but the episode has reignited conversations around silent exclusions, political discomfort, and how personal beliefs can quietly shape professional boundaries in celebrity circles.
